The Magnet Theater (254 West 29th Street) presents four weekly shows this summer. From "a competition you’ve never seen before to a show your shrink might suggest as an outlet for your suppressed feelings, this is improvisation at its best and a great way to spend summer nights for under $10. Yes, that’s right; each show is only $5-7."
The casts of these shows include some of New York’s most talented improvisers and Magnet faculty with credits on 30 Rock, Comedy Central, MTV, The Second City and Just for Laughs.
The Magnet Theater’s four weekly shows are:
· Kiss Punch Poem- (Saturdays at 9:00pm; $7) It’s the kind of poetry night you won’t be snapping after but rather laughing or even crying with laughter. Some of New York’s best improvisers team up with your favorite poets for a night of starving hysteria.
· Trike- (Saturdays at 10:30pm; $7) Improv duo Nick Kanellis & Peter McNerney meld playful physical transformation and careful scenework to deliver an impressively quick and detailed overlap of events in its conclusion. It’ll have you wondering “How’d they do that?”
· Inspirado- (Thursdays at 11:00pm; $7) Two teams. One challenge. Unlimited possibilities. It’s the ultimate improv competition that will make thirsty Thursday audiences thirsting for more competition.
· Friday Night Sh*w- (Fridays at 10:00pm; $5) Who needs a shrink when there’s an improv show for that? The Friday Night Sh*w gives audience members the chance to anonymously write down their repressed rants and confessions for the improvisers to use and fuel the fast-paced brawl onstage.
