Magloire Presents New Chamber Ballet, 11/16 & 17

Miro Magloire's New Chamber Ballet will continue its 2018-19 season with two world premieres: New Ballet I by guest choreographer Gabrielle Lamb to music by Missy Mazzoli, and New Ballet II by Magloire, to music by Schubert (titles later!). Completing the program are Magloire's Feel Your Fall, to music by composer Wolfgang Rihm, premiered at the September performances, and Two Friends to Debussy. As always, Magloire's superb musicians are called upon to perform compositions that range from the impressionist Debussy to the contemporary sounds of Rihm.

Guest choreographer GABRIELLE LAMB has created an as yet untitled trio to music by major contemporary composer Missy Mazzoli, whose new opera Proving Up was performed at the Miller Theater last month. The two selections by Mazzoli both reference the past: her violin solo Dissolve, O My Heart references Bach's legendary Chaconne, while the piano solo Map of Laughter is influenced by Schubert's Moment Musical No. 4. The new work was underwritten by Stuart Coleman and Meryl Rosofsky, and Claire and Christopher Mann.

Magloire's new ballet is a quartet to Franz Schubert's Moments Musicaux Nos 2-5 for piano. The premiere was underwritten by Leslie and Richard Curtis.
The Company will repeat Feel Your Fall, premiered just last September, a trio to music by contemporary German composer Wolfgang Rihm, his Uber Die Linie VII for solo violin.

The program will be completed by Two Friends, a stormy friendship drama set to Debussy's Sonata for violin and piano.

Gabrielle Lamb, winner of a 2014 Princess Grace Award for Choreography, is a New York City-based choreographer and the founder of Pigeonwing Dance. Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was trained at the Boston Ballet School and joined Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal in 2000, earning her soloist promotion in 2003. At the invitation of choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, she moved to New York City in 2009 to join his company Morphoses.

Ms. Lamb, who began choreographing in 2005, has won the National Choreographic Competition of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago in 2009 and in 2013 was awarded First Prize in Milwaukee Ballet's Genesis International Choreographic Competition and Western Michigan University's National Choreographic Competition. She was winner of the Banff Centre's 2014-15 Clifford E. Lee Choreography Award, and in 2014 was honored with a New York City Center Choreography Fellowship. Most Recently she was awarded the S&R Foundation's Washington Award Grand Prize for 2018, and is currently creating a new work for American Ballet Theatre's ABT Incubator.

Lamb is also a self-taught video artist and animator. Her choreography and dance films have been presented by Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet, BalletX, Sacramento Ballet, Ballet Austin, Hubbard Street 2, Milwaukee Ballet, The Joffrey Ballet Concert Group (NYC), Ballet Memphis, and others.

Coming Up for NEW CHAMBER BALLET:The next City Center Studio 5 season will take place February 18 & 19 (yes, a Monday and a Tuesday!). The company will again collaborate for these performances with the Ekmeles vocal ensemble in an extended production of "I Am," premiered in February 2018. In March, New Chamber Ballet will perform Stray Bird - A Danced Tribute to Ursula Mamlok, at the German Society of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, and will repeat the work in April at the German Academy New York
