Hybrid Theatre Works, an international collective of artists dedicated to pursuing peace, social justice and human rights through performance, joins Magic Futurebox and theatres around the world in a global benefit commemorating the first anniversary of the earthquake that devastated Japan. The event will be held Sunday, March 11th at 6:30 p.m. at Magic Futurebox in Sunset Park, Brookyn. The Japan Playwrights Association will disperse 100% of the proceeds from this one-day-only event to the Japanese theater community affected by the disaster. For tickets and more information go to http://brooklynshinsai.eventbrite.com/ Tickets are a suggested donation of $10.
The Brooklyn event will feature short plays and music commissioned by major Japanese and American Playwrights, and a new devised piece created by Japanese artist, Junko Ishikawa in collaboration with Hybrid’s international ensemble. The pieces will be installed in different areas of Magic Futurebox’s 20,000 sq. ft space taking the audience on a journey through the artistic responses of the tragedy. The event will be followed by an opportunity to eat, drink and discuss the work with the artists.
