Versatile stage and screen performer Maggie Gyllenhaal features singularly and also quite prominently in a striking new ad for MCC's upcoming season, showcasing her highly anticipated new dramatic stage role in THE VILLAGE BIKE next year.

Sam Gold directs Gyllenhaal in the purportedly unusual new play, which received acclaim in its UK bow in 2011, and the ad follows suit, alluding to Gyllenhaal's prolific and high profile film career as well as hints at her part in this upcoming stage play by Penelope Skinner.

The purple-hewed promotional shot of a smirking and well-coiffed Gyllenhaal is set with the following caustic caption: "Secretary. Batman Lover. Oscar Nominee. Now Pregnant... On A Bike."

The shrewd promotional piece refers to Gyllenhaal's memorable performances in the films SECRETARY, THE DARK KNIGHT and CRAZY HEART, for which she received an Academy Award nomination in 2009, as well as the leading character of THE VILLAGE BIKE, Becky.

The official description of THE VILLAGE BIKE is as follows: Becky is pregnant-and friskier than ever. But she can't seem to get the attention of her husband, who is preoccupied with preparing for the baby's months-away arrival. So Becky takes matters into her own hands and sets out on an adventure that starts with the purchase of a used bike from a man in town and takes her further than she ever expected she'd go. A provocative and darkly comic look at fantasy and desire, The Village Bike by Penelope Skinner premiered at London's Royal Court Theatre in 2011, where it enjoyed a sold-out, twice-extended run. MCC's new production will feature Maggie Gyllenhaal (Crazy Heart, The Dark Knight) under the direction of Sam Gold (Circle Mirror Transformation, The Flick)."

THE VILLAGE BIKE begins performances at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on May 21, with the official opening set for June 9.
