Madison Square Park Conservancy Hosts Alice Farley's IF THERE WERE A MOON

The Madison Square Park Conservancy presents the Alice Farley Dance Theater in Farley's 'IF THERE WERE A MOON,' a dance of gesture and image designed to conjure moonlight by day. The free-to-the-public, 55-minute performance will take place Thursday July 19 at 7 PM in the Park at Madison Avenue & 24th Street (enter the Park on the East Side at 24th & Madison).

Alice Farley, hailed for her remarkable dance/theater works for 25 years, will collaborate once again with composer Peter Garland, whose original music conjures up Farley's imaginary, delicate landscape; and the 10-member performing ensemble, led by extraordinary artist and Sufi teacher Felicia Norton, will perform among the exhibit of sculptures by Diana Al-Hadid entitled "Delirious Matter."

Alice Farley's unique works combine magic and circus with puppetry, elaborate surreal visuals, and dance. She designs sculptural costumes and kinetic puppets to choreograph imaginary worlds for both black box theaters and site-specific environmental landscapes. The Company was recently seen last December as part of Winter's Eve at Lincoln Square, performed on Broadway from 60th to 63rd Streets, NYC. Farley has produced dance/theater for 25 years, performing in the U.S., Canada, Europe, the Caribbean, and Asia, in such venues as The Public Theater in collaboration with Pulitzer Prize winning composer Henry Threadgill (part of the Henson Festival), the Whitney Museum, Guggenheim Museum NYC, Philadelphia Fine Arts, Singapore Arts, Aruba International Dance Festival, Toronto Harbourfront Festival, Quebec Festival d'Ete, Andy Warhol Museum, and Cleveland Science Center, to name a few.

The artist is founder and president of Looking Glass Productions, created in 1993, and artistic director of Alice Farley Dance Theater, headquartered in New York. Her work has been recognized with a "Bessie," six choreographic fellowships from the NEA, grants from NYFA, DCA, the Cary Trust, Meet the Composer, the Jim Henson Foundation, and others for her innovative dance/theater productions.
