Macy's announced that it has raised $3.4 million for the March of Dimes and various charitable organizations across the country as a result of the generous participation of customers nationwide in its 2014 Shop For A Cause event.
Now in its ninth year, Shop For A Cause is a unique, one-day-only shopping event created to support local and national charities' fundraising efforts. Macy's designated March of Dimes, the leading nonprofit organization in support of pregnancy and baby health, as its national beneficiary of all proceeds of sales of Shop For A Cause savings passes in Macy's stores and on macys.com.
"Macy's Shop For A Cause program presents a meaningful way for our customers and associates to give back," said Martine Reardon, Macy's chief marketing officer. "Thanks to everyone who supports this program nationwide, we are proud to announce that $3.4 million was raised as a result of this year's efforts."
This year, more than 5,000 local charities signed up to participate. By purchasing $5 Shop For A Cause savings passes from these organizations, customers supported their favorite local causes and received 25 percent off on regular, sale and clearance merchandise, as well as 10 percent off electrics, electronics, watches, furniture, mattresses and area rugs, all day Saturday, Aug. 23.
