Macy's invited customers to participate in its eighth annual national Shop For A Cause charity event on Aug. 24, 2013. Macy's Shop For A Cause is a unique, one-day-only shopping event, created to support the fundraising efforts of local charities, which has helped raise more than $45 million since 2006. In addition to thousands of local charities selling savings passes across the country, Macy's has designated March of Dimes, the leading nonprofit organization in support of pregnancy and baby health, as its national beneficiary of all proceeds of sales of Shop For A Cause savings passes in Macy's stores and on macys.com.
This year, more than 6,000 local charities have signed up to participate. By purchasing $5 Shop For A Cause savings passes from these organizations, customers will be supporting their favorite causes and will receive 25 percent off on regular, sale and clearance merchandise, as well as 10 percent off electrics, electronics, watches, furniture, mattresses and area rugs in the store all day Saturday, Aug. 24. Customers also are eligible to win a $500 gift card. (See savings pass for discount exclusions and restrictions. No purchase necessary to participate in sweepstakes. Official rules and alternate means of entry for sweepstakes are available at all Macy's locations.)
Each participating nonprofit organization will keep 100 percent of every savings pass it sells. For a list of all organizations, please visit macys.com/shopforacause.
"Over the past eight years, Macy's annual Shop For A Cause event has raised more than $45 million for local and national charities, providing our associates and customers an opportunity to give back to those organizations that touch their hearts and lives each and every day," said Martine Reardon, Macy's chief marketing officer. "We are honored to partner with March of Dimes as our national in-store beneficiary to offer our customers an easy and convenient way to make a positive difference in the lives of others, while enjoying great savings at Macy's."
New this year, Macy's is partnering with the March of Dimes mobile-giving partners Mobile Commons and the BBB Mobile Giving Foundation to allow customers to make donations conveniently using their smart phones, while receiving the same great Macy's deal. Customers who choose to participate will receive a $5 charge on their phone bill by their wireless provider. Each wireless provider will collect this charge and submit to the Mobile Giving Foundation, which will then transfer all contributions to the March of Dimes. Customers can also shop online at macys.com, as passes purchased there on Aug. 24 will also benefit the March of Dimes.
"It's so important to our mission to help moms and babies to have Macy's, a leading retailer, support our efforts," said Sandra Hijikata, chief revenue officer for the March of Dimes. "Shop For A Cause demonstrates Macy's corporate responsibility and support for communities, volunteers, and families across the country."
