Hailed as "Equal parts James Joyce and Carol Burnett," the acclaimed Irish play Myra's Story makes its US debut November 17 as part of the 2016 United Solo Theatre Festival.
Written by Irish playwright Brian Foster, Myra's Story offers a day of reminiscence for a feisty homeless "wine connoisseur" as she begs for money from passers-by on the streets of Dublin.
Audiences have laughed and cried with Myra, performed by award-winning Canadian actor Jennifer Cornish, as she narrates her journey with street-smart style, wry wit and unapologetic honesty, breathing life into the many colorful characters who have shaped her life.
Myra's Story is directed by Darlene Spencer, former artistic director at Toronto's Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, a renown college for Broadway-calibre triple-threat performers.
Winner of Outstanding Production and Critic's Choice honours from the 2013 London and Hamilton Fringe Festivals and a featured production at Toronto's 2015 One More Night Festival, Myra's Story is an engaging blend of urban Irish storytelling and dramatic realism, as seen through the shattered lens of a wino's bottle.
Myra's Story runs Thursday, November 17 at 9 p.m. at Theatre Row, 410 West 42nd Street. Tickets are $20.25 (which includes a $2.25 theatre restoration charge) and are available at the Theatre Row box office, 410 West 42nd Street, New York, NY 10036, by phone at 212.239.6200 and online at telecharge.com.
