After the success of "Legally Blonde The Musical" MTV will once again join forces with the Legally Blonde The Musical team this time to search for a talented singer/actress/dancer to take over for Broadway star and current lead Laura Bell Bundy.
Auditions for the new "Elle" begin this month and will be held in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Orlando and Nashville. MTV's airing of Legally Blonde The Musical reached over 12.5 million viewers during it's premiere weekend. "Legally Blonde: The Search for the New Elle Woods" will air this spring.
"Legally Blonde The Musical" is spawned from MGM's hit Legally Blonde film franchise. "In Legally Blonde, it follows sorority star Elle Woods, who doesn't take 'no' for an answer. So when her boyfriend dumps her for someone more "serious," Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books, and sets out to go where no Delta Nu has gone before: Harvard Law. Along the way, Elle proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style," explain press notes.
Nominated for seven Tony Awards, Legally Blonde The Musical opened on Broadway on Sunday, April 29, 2007. The Original Broadway Cast Recording for Legally Blonde The Musical, was released on Ghostlight Records, capturing the #1 slot on the Billboard Cast Album chart, and charting at #86 on the Billboard Top 200. The album has continued its success, charting every week as one of the top-selling Broadway cast recordings. This fall, MGM continues its girl empowerment franchise, releasing Legally Blondes, a new movie for the home entertainment marketplace starring Camilla Rosso and Rebecca Rosso as the British twin cousins of Elle Woods who move to Los Angeles to attend high school.
At the helm of the creative team of Legally Blonde The Musical is Tony Award-winner Jerry Mitchell, in his debut on Broadway as both director and choreographer, who serves as a creative consultant for the special. Music and lyrics are by both Laurence O'Keefe (Bat Boy) and Nell Benjamin (Sarah, Plain and Tall) and the book is by Heather Hach (the movie Freaky Friday).
Reveille (producers of "The Office," "Ugly Betty," "American Gladiators," "The Biggest Loser," "Nashville Star" and "Date My Mom," among others) is producing the MTV series. Mark Koops and Howard T. Owens are the Executive Producers for Reveille. Amanda Lipitz is also an Executive Producer. Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley and Maira Suro serve as Executive Producers for MTV.
