The Stargate Theatre Company provides court-involved youth with transitional employment, work-readiness training and literacy education in a creative theatrical environment designed to improve members' employment prospects while boosting their skills and self-esteem. With the guidance of Stargate's Co-Artistic Directors, Emmy Award-winner and playwright Judy Tate and director Stephen DiMenna, the ensemble composes, rehearses and performs a drama reflecting their collective identity and their aspirations, ideas and fears about themselves and the world.

Weathering the Storm is a 30-minute original play inspired by the company members' reflections on family and home life. Through expressionistic poetry, dramatic dialogue, commentary on relevant current events, and dance, Weathering the Storm explores the challenges and joys of its creators as they evaluate their past and transition to adulthood.

The 2014 Stargate Theatre Company is supported by a grant from the Ford Foundation's Good Neighbor Committee. The pilot season of the Stargate Theatre Company and a subsequent dissemination and planning initiative were underwritten by the Leon F. Lowenstein Foundation.
