The annual award recognizes six outstanding New York City businesses which have flourished in the City.
According to the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce (MCC), MTC is being recognized "for their outstanding contributions to the culture arena in New York City for the past 35 years by building a highly respected, innovative theater company. Also for their keen eye in selecting quality plays, like their recent 2005 play Doubt - winner of the Pulitzer Prize For Drama -- as well as for encouraging budding playwrights, actors, designers, etc. Their productions have risen to world wide acclaim, earning them four Pulitzer Prizes, 15 Tony Awards, 45 Obie Awards, 25 Drama Desk Awards, as well as numerous Drama Critics Circle, Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Awards."
"We are extraordinarily honored to be presented with this award," said Artistic Director Lynne Meadow and Executive Producer Barry Grove. "As our name implies, our inspiration and our creativity stem from the City. It has been our New York audiences that have sustained us over the years and have supported us as we grew. City audiences and City government have been with us every step of the way and we are eternally grateful."
The other award winners are MCC New Business Award: Darren Sussman, Theatremania.com; MCC Business Growth Award: Jacques Torres, Jacques Torres Chocolates; MCC Media Award: Dominic Carter, NY1 News; MCC Women/Minority Business Award: Lowell Hawthorne, GoldenKrust Bakery; and MCC Featured Award winner, Charlie Rose.
The presentation will be hosted by Con Edison and will be held at their offices at Irving Place.
