MOTOWN's Berry Gordy to Receive 2014 'BET Honors' Visionary Award, 2/24

MOTOWN THE MUSICAL creator and legendary Motown record label founder Berry Gordy will receive the Visionary Award during the 2014 "BET Honors" ceremony broadcast nationwide on Monday, February 24th.

Now represented on Broadway with the smash hit Motown the Musical, Gordy spoke to BET about his pride in creating the company that redefined an industry and became the soundtrack of a generation.

The 2014 "BET Honors" airs on Monday, February 24 at 9:00pm EST. Locally, the program can be found on BET (Time Warner Cable channel 37.)

Hosted by Renaissance man Wayne Brady, the "BET Honors" ceremony was taped at historic Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, February 8, 2014. Other 2014 honorees include Aretha Franklin, who receives the Musical Arts Award for an incomparable four decades in music; Ken Chenault, Chairman and CEO of American Express, who receives the Corporate Citizen Award for his leadership in business and personal commitment to public service and philanthropy; artist, activist and 2013 MacArthur Genius Carrie Mae Weems, who is the Visual Arts Award recipient for her provocative art which tackles complex issues of race, gender and class through video and photography; and trailblazer O'Shea Jackson, better known as Ice Cube, who receives the Entertainment Award for his pioneering work in music and impressive career in film and television.

MOTOWN THE MUSICAL, featuring music and lyrics from the legendary Motown catalogue and a book by Berry Gordy, began performances March 11, 2013 at The Lunt-Fontanne Theatre (205 West 46th Street), and opened April 14, 2013.
