MONTPELIER, Vt., July 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ PRINT Magazine, an influential trade publication covering the design industry, has named the MFA in Graphic Design at Vermont College of Fine Arts one of the top graduate design programs in the country. In its August issue, VCFA's MFA in Graphic Design is listed alongside design programs at institutions such as Yale University and the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).

The article, entitled, "Lessons Learned: The Best Design MFAs in the Country," states: "In the field of graphic design, although most practitioners hold at the very least a secondary degree, truth be told, no degree is requiredsimply a great portfolio. With that said, in recent years there has been a wellspring of new graphic design MFA programs in addition to those already in place."

"We are honored to be on this list of exceptional design programs," said Matthew Monk, Academic Dean and founding faculty chair of the MFA in Graphic Design program at VCFA. "For such a young program to gain national recognition so quickly speaks to the incredible quality of the faculty, students, and alumni of this unique program."

The Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at VCFA is one of the nation's first low-residency programs in graphic design and is built around a student's individual interests and creative goals. It is an immersive two-year graduate program that synthesizes five intense, one-week residencies with four six-month semesters of independent study with a range of faculty mentors. It seeks to educate students towards the broader context of design in order to investigate and reveal relationships.VCFA envisions design as a social tool and design education as a process of social transformation.
