MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG UK Revival Filmed For Digital Release!

The heralded West End revival of the time-bending Stephen Sondheim/George Furth showbiz musical MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG is being filmed and is set to be released digitally as part of the online performing arts channel Digital Theatre.

BroadwayWorld Spain's Juan-Jose Gonzalez broke the news earlier today that an upcoming performance of the hit revival of the tricky, reverse-time musical has been scheduled to be filmed for release, with patrons at recent performances of the musical at the Harold Pinter Theatre alerted to the news via a sign in the theater's lobby, posted earlier this week.

The West End revival of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG is directed by West End leading lady and frequent Sondheim interpreter Maria Friedman, starring Damian Humbley, Mark Umbers and Jenna Russell. The production originally began at the vaunted Menier Chocolate Factory before transferring to the West End for an extended run earlier this year.

MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG traces the friendship of three individuals - Frank, Charley and Mary - from the 1950s through the late 1970s in reverse-time, depicting their dreams coming true, nightmares realized and the tricks time plays on us all. The score features such Sondheim hallmarks as "Not A Day Goes By", "Good Thing Going" and "Old Friends", famously covered by Carly Simon, Frank Sinatra and Liza Minnelli, respectively, among other musical gems. The original short-lived 1981 Broadway production was directed by Harold Prince, the final collaboration between Sondheim and Prince on a new musical until BOUNCE nearly 25 years later. Additionally, the show features a book by COMPANY collaborator George Furth, based on the play of the same name by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart.
