The talents of 63 Mercer County artists will be on display at the Gallery at Mercer County Community College (MCCC) in the "Mercer County Artists 2015" exhibit, which runs from February 2 to 27. The MCCC Gallery is located on the second floor of the Communications Building on Mercer's West Windsor campus at 1200 Old Trenton Road.
The community is invited to an Opening Reception and Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The ceremony will begin at approximately 5:45 p.m., with representatives from the college, the Mercer County Cultural and Heritage Commission, and the West Windsor Arts Council on hand to make presentations. More than $1,000 in prizes will be awarded, including multiple Purchase Awards from the Mercer County Cultural and Heritage Commission. Artwork selected for Purchase Awards will become part of the county's permanent collection.
The show features 89 works in a variety of media selected from 244 pieces submitted by 138 artists. "Both the number of artists and the number of submissions increased this year," MCCC Gallery Director Dylan Wolfe said. "The arts community is alive and well in central New Jersey, with artists clearly embracing the opportunity to participate in this annual show."
The curator for the show is painter and MCCC Professor of Fine Art Kyle Stevenson, who has taught at the college since 2002. According to Stevenson, this year's entry pool was strong, making his experience as juror both stimulating and challenging.
"One of my favorite things to do in the world is to look at art," he said. "To be able to go through such a fantastic assembled collection was the very height of fun. I tried to select a show with a broad spectrum of what good art can be. It was a great privilege to be trusted with selecting this year's exhibition." Gallery hours for this show are Mondays through Wednesdays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The exhibition is co-sponsored by and supported through a grant from the Mercer County Cultural and Heritage Commission, with funding from the New Jersey State Council of the Arts/Department of State, a partner of the National Endowment for the Arts.
