Lynne Taylor-Corbett Directs Industry Readings of ASKING FOR IT Today

Asking For It, written and performed by Joanna Rush, under the direction of two-time Tony Award nominee Lynne Taylor-Corbett, will run two invited industry performances in New York City at Theater at St. Luke's, today, May 13th, 3PM & 8PM. Theatre at St. Luke's is located at 308 West 46th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues in New York City.

"Asking For It follows one woman's hysterical and heart-breaking journey from "Outstanding Catholic Youth of the Year" to the stage of Radio City Music Hall and the cast of "A Chorus Line".

On her way to Radio City Music Hall, to audition for the Rockettes, Bernie O'Connell is lured into a car and raped in a vacant lot off the Brooklyn Queens Expressway. With passion and wit, this solo play about faith and relationships, sexuality and spiritual awakening follows Bernie from Radio City to A Chorus Line to Hollywood and back as she picks up the pieces and puts them back together.

The play has been seen at the All For One Theater Festival, Edinburgh Fringe, NY Fringe, Lincoln Center Atrium Series. On International Women's Day for the United Nations Council on the Empowerment of Women and The Hunger Project. It is presently touring colleges from Ohio to Massachusetts and is gearing up for a fall opening Off-Broadway.

Joanna Rush (Playwright) Asking For It: developed at NY Society for Ethical Culture, The Kirk Theater on Theater Row, Stocker Arts Center in Ohio, Becket Arts Center, Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Playwright's Horizons, and in the New York International Theater Festival, The Yard Arts Center, Martha's Vineyard, Gloucester Stage Company. She was chosen to perform sections of the play for "International Women's Day" sponsored by the United Nations Counsel on the Empowerment of Women" and the Hunger Project. Home Sweet Homeland , Lynne Taylor- Corbett (director) was work-shopped at Stocker Arts Center, Ohio, this past season. Lynne Taylor-Corbett (Director): Lynne is known for her work in theatre, dance and film. She was nominated for 2 Tony Awards and a Drama Desk for direction and choreography of Broadway's "Swing!" and for two American Theatre Wing Star Awards for it's National Tour. She also choreographed Broadways's "Chess" and "Titanic". Off Broadway, she directed "Theda Bara and the Frontier Rabbi", Marie Jones's "Women on the Verge..." at Irish Arts, "Darlene Love: Portrait of a Singer" at the Bottom Line, "20th Century Pop" at the Rainbow and Stars, and was the original director of the Korean import, "Cookin'" at The Minetta Lane.

She directed a play entitled "Your Simone" at The Culture Project; "Boxes" and "Asking For It" at the New York Fringe Festival and All for One solo play Festival. Regional shows include "Tintypes" at Hartford Stage and The Old Globe, "Opal" at George Street Playhouse and The Lyric Theatre, "Flight of the Lawnchair Man" for the Goodspeed Opera House, "Hats" in Chicago, "Girl's Room" starring Donna McKechnie and Carol Lawrence, and "In the Car with Blossom and Len" at Centenary Stage.

Lynne's dance works have been commissioned by New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Hubbard Street Dance Company, Pacific Northwest Ballet and numerous companies throughout the world. She is the resident guest choreographer of The Carolina Ballet.

Broadcasts of her work have been seen on "Live From Lincoln Center", "Live from the San Francisco Opera House" and on UNCTV. Her films include "Footloose", "My Blue Heaven", "Vanilla Sky" and "Bewitched". Most recently she and her work, "Chiaroscuro" were featured in "Water Flowing Together", a documentary on Jock Soto of the New York City Ballet shown on PBS Video and directed by Gwendolen Cates.

Ms. Taylor-Corbett has staged benefits for The Hunger Project, is on the advisory board of Rosie's Broadway Kids, has been honored for her work for the A-T Project and is a mentor to a young playwright living in Tanzania through Nile Roger's We Are Family Foundation. She is a proud member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and even prouder to be the mom of actor Shaun Taylor-Corbett who is currently in the Tony Award winning Jersey Boys.
