Lunar New Year Celebrations Come to The Staten Island Children's Museum  Image

The Staten Island Children's Museum will celebrate Lunar New Year with special programs in February.

Tuesday, February 5: Free Admission Day, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Admission to the Children's Museum will be free for all guests on Lunar New Year, a NYC Public School holiday, sponsored by National Grid. Visitors will enjoy two special programs:

Lunar New Year Celebration: Art Workshop
Guests will learn about the significance of the color red as a symbol of luck in Chinese culture, create their own red envelopes, and then decorate them with gold-colored calligraphy in this workshop, open from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Future Dentists: Celebrating National Children's Dental Health Month
Dr. Marcia Greene of Bayview Dental Care will visit the Children's Museum and demonstrate proper oral hygiene for children during sessions from 1:00 - 3:00 pm.

Free timed tickets for each of these events will be available at the front desk.

Sunday, February 24: Year of the Pig Celebration

The Vietnam Heritage Center will show visitors how to play a bamboo pole game used during this celebration at 2:00 pm.

"The Staten Island Children's Museum wishes all of those celebrating a Happy New Year, and we welcome all children and families in our community to share and learn during these special events," said Dina Rosenthal, Executive Director of the Staten Island Children's Museum.

The Staten Island Children's Museum is located on the grounds of Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10301. The Museum's hours for September - June are Tuesday- Friday from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. The Staten Island Children's Museum is housed in a building owned by the City of New York and its operation is made possible, in part, with public funds provided through the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs with support from the Staten Island delegation to the NYC Council. Significant operating support is also provided by the NYS Council on the Arts, Corporations, Foundations, the Trustees and Members.
