Be swept away by a swirling fantasia of music, theater and animation with the innovative multimedia masterpiece Luna/Penguin. Superbly performed by an on-stage chamber orchestra, Filip Bral's original score sets the captivating tone for two international tales - the fiery Slovakian fable Luna of the Tree and the mesmerizing Japanese poem My Heart is a Penguin. High above the stage, two movie screens become living canvases on which Gerda Dendooven and Chiharu Sakazaki dazzling illustrations leap to life. At another magical moment, the New Victory stage is flooded with water, transforming it into a glimmering crystal-like pond filled with beauty and surprises just above the surface. Poignant, touching and startlingly beautiful, LUNA/Penguin makes its U.S. debut at The New Victory Theater from Friday, April 8 through Sunday, April 24, 2005.

Belgium-based Pantalone's orchestral fantasy Luna/Penguin swells with both melodious arrangements and captivating storytelling all in one stellar production. In the first gripping legend, Luna of the Tree, a valiant young prince discovers the mystery behind an enchanted tree that sends him on a daring adventure. Along the way he encounters dueling devils and invisible cities as he searches the globe for his one true love. In the second magical manuscript, My Heart is a Penguin, the New Victory stage transforms into a tranquil reflecting pool. Under the dreamlike glow of an auburn moon, a deft storyteller, a string ensemble and a sound effects artist all sit upon beating, floating hearts to share the chronicles of an enlightened penguin with an uncompromising personality.

Founded in 1999 by composer/conductor Filip Bral, Pantalone strives to create interactive, artistic projects for family audiences. Comprised of a collective of artists, this Belgium-based company brings together musicians, writers, video artists, illustrators, actors and stage directors. Its projects incorporate several forms of media: staged productions, written work, CD-rom and DVD technology, workshops and interactive websites. The fruitful collaboration with, among others, the author Bart Moeyaert, illustrator Gerda Dendooven and author Marit Törnqvist has produced such works as Luna of the Tree (1999-2000), Brundibar (2000) and My Heart is a Penguin (2001-2002).

ABOUT NEW YORK'S PREMIER THEATER FOR KIDS AND FAMILIES The New Victory Theater, a New 42nd Street® project, is New York City's premier theater for kids and families. Built by Oscar Hammerstein in 1900 and opened as the Theatre Republic, it established 42nd Street as the heart of New York's theater district. Ninety-five years later, The New Victory was the FIRST historic theater to be renovated on the block, and its opening, on December 11, 1995, sparked the renaissance of 42nd Street. Today it is one of the City's most respected cultural institutions and has "pioneered a new, sophisticated vision of family entertainment" (Time Out New York) with cutting-edge productions like Shockheaded Peter, Grimm Tales and The Junebug Symphony; dynamic dance companies like the Seán Curran Company and Rennie Harris Puremovement; puppetry masterpieces like Kwaidan and Peter and Wendy; new vaudeville/circus spectacles like AntiGravity's Crash Test Dummies and the Circus Oz; and Tony-nominated, Broadway-transfers like A Year With Frog and Toad and It Ain't Nothin' But The Blues.

Founded in 1990, The New 42nd Street Inc. is an independent, nonprofit organization charged with long-term responsibility for seven historic theaters on 42nd Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. In addition to running The New Victory Theater, The New 42nd Street Inc. built and operates the New 42nd Street ® Studios - a ten-story building of rehearsal studios, offices and a 199-seat, workshop/experimental theater named The Duke on 42nd Streetsm - for national and international performing arts companies. With these institutions and the other properties under its guardianship, The New 42nd Street Inc. plays a pivotal role in fostering the continued revival of the Crossroads of the World.
