Luis Salgado, one of the young Latinos on Broadway who has dedicated his entire life to both dance and social work, is currently working on the developing of the first original musical in Peru along with PURA VIBRA PRODUCCIONES called Candela "Fuerza y Pasión".
He founded R.Evolución latina, a collective of artists and activists with a goal in mind: to strengthen the artistic community in order to inspire and push the growth inside the comunidad latina through collaborations, events and programs of educational support. He is also the founder of Salgado Productions, his new company whose aim is to develop and create art with a social meaning. Salgado has arrived today to Lima to direct CANDELA 'FUERZA Y PASION' which will be presented in Teatro Zum of Universidad on September 1st - 4th.
Following Luis' philosophy, PURA VIBRA PRODUCCIONES invited him to participate in this Project after seeing his work in Festival de Coreógrafos de R.Evolución Latina last Month in New York. Lucia Navarro ('Candela' producer), is daring to go beyond through Art and by giving something to Peru through social organizations. "The production of 'Candela "Fuerza y Pasión"' is compromised to give 50% of the grosses to social organizations 'Enseña Peru' and 'Un Techo Para Mi Pais'. After visiting both of them personally, I've witnessed both of them dare to go beyond and follow the mission of unity and integration we've planned," Luis says. "I'm proud that my work with choreography and direction can reach so far through this mission of social awareness in 'R.Evolución Latina'."
Salgado, who is also currently working as one of the producers for the new revival of 'Godspell' on Broadway, with Ken Davenport from Davenport Theatrical Enterprises Inc., has brought the concept of 'People of Godspell' to Peru, showing them the process of creating an American musical but going for the local talent and art in Peru. In the team for the production of 'Candela' he will work with light designer Joel Silver ('Next To Normal', 'Hair', '39 Steps'), Heather Hogan (Franco Dragone 'Carmen', 'India', and In The Heights stage manager), choreographer Valeria Cossu (assistant director and guest choreographer in Festival de Coreógrafos de R.Evolución Latina), and two local consultants for Peruvian dance: Peruvian Folk Master Luis Antonio Vichez, Dancer and D1 Choreographer Diana Follegati, who will join through an educational exchange with Vania Masías D1 Dance Company.
