Lucite International, owner of the LuciteLux acrylic brand, today launched its inaugural JUST IMAGINE Awards program at GlobalShop 2013 in booth #2638. The company also announced the prestigious panel of judges who will select the winner:

  • Alexandra Von Furstenberg, designer of modern furniture and president of AVF, LLC
  • Anne-Louise Ewen, fine artist and Lucite painter/sculptor
  • Jamer Hunt, director of the experimental graduate program in transdisciplinary design at Parsons The New School for Design
  • Jason Kelly Johnson and Nataly Gattegno, architects and founders of FUTURE CITIES LAB
  • Ron Labaco, Marcia Docter curator for the Museum of Art & Design
  • Simon Ellis, business director, Lucite International, Inc.

Lucite International will celebrate the winner with a full-page spread in Architectural Record as well as a making-of documentary that tells the story of the designer's work with LuciteLux. The documentary will debut at an exclusive screening party at the site of the installation this fall.

"Our vision for the JUST IMAGINE Awards is to celebrate designers who have embraced the uniqueness of working with, and creating designs using our brand, LuciteLux," said Ellis. "We're very proud that this wonderful material continues to inspire creative thinking and to bring those ideas imagined into real life: from back-lit signage that arrests attention to a floating wall in a hotel lobby and everything in between."

All LuciteLux colors and effects were on display in the booth, including new additions Impressions and Myst, as well as key products such as Clear, Vario, and Fluorescent.

Myst features an elegant frosted appearance that softly diffuses light. The effect is infused throughout the material, which means that imaginative fabrications requiring thermoforming or bending will not change its appearance.

The linear pattern of Impressions affords a unique and understated sophistication suitable to any retail environment and enhances performance by offering an extra dimension of texture.

Also featured was the LuciteLux Illuminations Series, which allows designers to develop stunning back-lit and edge-lit LED signs using high quality continuous cast acrylic. Specially engineered particles are dispersed throughout the continuous cast acrylic to ensure optimized color performance, exceptional brightness, even illumination and weatherability.

"Our Illuminations Series allows visual merchandising designers to create back-lit and edge-lit concepts that literally turn heads," said Jane Nash, LuciteLux sales development manager. "We're also very excited about Impressions. Its contemporary pattern and wide variety of color options fit today's design trends and the added dimension of texture makes it an ideal material for a highly trafficked retail environment."

Designers from all industries are welcome to enter: architects, fabricators, fine artists, visual merchandising designers, furniture designers, interior designers, sign designers, commercial artists, fashion designers and design students.
