Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy offers "Crossing Delancey" tour on Sunday, September 12th. The tour takes visitors inside several renowed sacred sites of the Lower East Side - from the spectacular to the simple - reflecting the 19th and 20th century.

On the tour, visitors can:

  • Marvel at the stunning interior of the Angel Orensanz Cultural Foundation (formerly Congregation Anshei Chesed), the oldest synagogue building in NYC.
  • Tour Congregation B'nei Jacob Anshei Brzezan (also known as the Stanton Street Shul) - one of the few remaining tenement-style synagogues in the LES. Learn about the renaissance taking place in this warm, old-world space.
  • Experience the history of the magnificently restored Congregation Chasam Sofer, the oldest continually operating synagogue in NYC.
  • Nosh at Economy Candy. Visit Streit's Matzoh Factory, the last remaining family owned Matzoh factory in the U.S.

Tour members will meet up in from the Staton Street Shul (180 Stanton St.) at 10:45 AM; the tour takes about two and half to three hours. Tickets are $18 for adults and $16 for seniors and students. Visitors can save $2 by pre-registering. Call (212) 374-4100 x 1 or 2 to register or for further information.

The Lower East Side Jewish Conservancy is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving, sharing and celebrating the Jewish heritage of the Lower East Side. Private customized tours available by appointment.
