Lori Bookstein Fine Art Opens Exhibit Featuring Eve Aschheim & More Today

Lori Bookstein Fine Art is pleased to announce a group exhibition of works by Eve Aschheim, Olive Ayhens, Sharon Horvath, Tine Lundsfryd, Janet Malcolm, Susannah Phillips, Elena Sisto and Helen Miranda Wilson.

Eve Aschheim (b. 1958, New York) received her BA from the University of California, Berkeley and her MFA from the University of California, Davis. Aschheim is a lecturer in the Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University, where she has taught full time since 2001. A recent John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fellow, the artist has also received grants from the Joan Mitchell Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, among others. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including solo shows at the Bannister Gallery, Rhode Island College, the New York Studio School, Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, NY, and the Weatherspoon Art Museum, Greensboro, NC. Selected public collections include the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; Fogg Museum, Cambridge, MA; Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin; Hood Museum of Art, Hanover, NH; Kunstmuseum Bonn, Germany; Kupferstichkabinet, Nationalgalerie, Berlin; Museum of Modern Art, New York; National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC; New-York Historical Society, New York; Morgan Library and Museum, New York; and Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, CT. The artist lives and works in New York.

Olive Ayhens (b. Oakland, CA) received her BFA and MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. In addition to her extensive exhibition history, Ayhens has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants including the Joan Mitchell Grant, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Award and Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation Individual Support Grant. Artist residencies include The Walsh Sharp Art Foundation Space Program, MacDowell Colony, Fundacion Valparaiso, the Salzburg Kunsterhaus, Yaddo Artist Residency, Djerassi Artist Residency, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and most recently the Roswell Artist in Residency. The artist lives and works in New York City.

Sharon Horvath (b. 1958, Cleveland, OH) received her BFA in from Cooper Union, New York and her MFA from Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia. She is an Associate Professor of Art at Purchase College, SUNY. Horvath has been the subject of numerous exhibitions in New York, Philadelphia, Boston, and abroad. Most recently she was inducted into the National Academy Museum. Her numerous awards and grants include the Fulbright-Nehru U.S. Scholar Grant, John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Grant for Painting, the Jacob H. Lazarus-Metropolitan Museum of Art Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome, the Anonymous was a Woman Award, the American Academy of Arts and Letters Richard and Hilda Rosenthal Award for Painting, the Edwin Palmer Prize in Painting from the National Academy Museum and two Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grants. The artist lives and works in New York City.

Tine Lundsfryd (b. 1964, Nykóbing Falster, Denmark) studied under the artist Carsten Dinnsen from 1984-1987, while also attending courses at the Anthroposophical Society in Copenhagen. In 1987, she joined the Vaerksted 82 (Studio 82), an artist collective consisting of ten young artists working together in a shared studio space. In 1990, under the auspices of the King Frederik and Queen Ingrids' Fund for Humanitarian and Cultural Purposes, Lundsfryd moved to New York City, where she studied at the New York Studio School. She received her MFA in painting from the Parsons School of Design. In 2000, she was the recipient of the Cultural Award from the American Scandinavian Society. The artist lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

Janet Malcolm (b. 1934, Prague) is the author of twelve books and a frequent contributor to The New Yorker and The New York Review of Books. In addition to her extensive practice of collage making, Malcolm has produced a series of photographs of Burdock leaves. A catalog of these prints, entitled Burdock, is available from Yale University Press. The artist lives and works in New York City.

Susannah Phillips (b. 1952, Boston, MA) was raised in London. She attended the Slade School of Fine Art in London, studying under William Coldstream and Euan Uglow. Her paintings have been in group exhibitions in London, New York and Provincetown, MA, and are included in numerous private collections. In 2014, she was awarded the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation Residency. The artist lives and works in New York.

Elena Sisto (b. 1952) lives and works in New York. She received her BA in Art and Art History from Brown Universityand Rhode Island School of Design and studied at the New York Studio School. The artist has been included in numerous museum exhibitions including those at the Wexner Center for the Arts, Katonah Museum of Art, and the Katzen Museum of Art at American University, among others. In addition, she was included in the 43rd Biennial of Contemporary American Painting at The Corcoran Gallery, Washington, DC. She is the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships including the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship, the Inglis Griswold Nelson Prize from the National Academy Museum and School, and the National Endowment for the Arts Visual Artist's Fellowship. She was inducted into the National Academy Museum this year. The artist lives and works in New York.

Helen Miranda Wilson, after living for decades in New York City, now makes her home in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. She works as a public servant in the town's municipal government and maintains a small scale farm. She has kept honeybees and chickens successfully for many years. She paints full-time and teaches occasionally.

Group 2015-2016 will be on view from today, December 10, 2015 - January 30, 2016. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, December 10th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM. The gallery will be closed December 22, 2015 - January 2, 2016 in observation of the Christmas and New Year holidays.
