The theatre company founded by artistic director, David Davila (Manuel Vs The Statue of Liberty) is committed to bringing Texas pages to New York stages by giving opportunities to Texas writers to have their work presented in the center of theatre around the world.
The 2015/2016 season kicks off on October 19th with a reading of Alan Charnock's ALIEN SEX COMEDY, a wacky, irreverent, and poignant look at the status of sex in our galaxy. With their planet on the brink of extinction, three aliens go searching for the secret to sex in the most confusing place in the universe: Earth. There they meet a UFO enthusiast, a reproductive biologist, her assistant, and an omniscient narrator - hijinks ensue. ALIEN SEX COMEDY is directed by Bryan Hunt and presented at the Hourglass Tavern.
On January 25th they will present DAVID DAVILA & THE MAGIC TIME MACHINE, a time travel song extravaganza that reflects on revisiting mistakes you shouldn't have have made twice. The concert will feature original songs by David Davila sung by a cast of talented Broadway and NY Cabaret veterans who will ride the Magic Time Machine. DAVID DAVILA & THE MAGIC TIME MACHINE is directed by Jose Sepulveda and presented as part of the annual TX MUSIC/NY STAGES concert series. It will be presented on Monday January 25th at 7pm at the Laurie Beechman theatre.
On February 22nd the season continues with a reading of Emily Comisar's SWITZERLAND. Not quite a boomerang child, not quite an independent, thirty-something professional, Katie, moves in with her father to help raise her young half-sister after the death of his wife - that was ten years ago. Now that the little girl is leaving home, Katie must consider whether it's time to move on with her own life as well. This reading will be presented at the Hourglass Tavern.
On March 21st the the final reading of the season will be Judith Leora's SHOWPONY. When a diverse group of women are randomly thrown together, they quickly realize that their cultural training has put them directly in opposition to each other, whether as workhorses, show-ponies or race-horses. Will they figure out how to get past their assigned roles and see each other as people? The play will be presented at Hourglass Tavern.
The season will culminate with the fourth annual Texas One Act Play Festival which will be presented on April 18th. The One Act Play Festival will be directed by Davila and feature new plays by Nilsa Reyna, Benjamin B Wright, Comisar, Leora, and Charnock.
