According to Whatsonstage.com, two hit West End musicals--the revival of Guys and Dolls and the Queen musical We Will Rock You--have extended their runs.
Guys and Dolls, directed by Michael Grandage, will now run at the Piccadilly Theatre through December 30th, 2006. Closing was previously announced for September. The show is also set to kick off a UK tour in Glasgow on September 16th, and plans are currently being made for it to bow on Broadway sometime during the 2006-2007 season. We Will Rock You is now booking at the Dominion Theatre through October 6th, 2007. Producers had previously announced its closing, but due to popular demand, it was instead extended through April 26th.Guys and Dolls opened in London on June 1st, 2005 with a lustrous cast in tow--Ewan McGregor (as
Sky Masterson), Jane Krakowski
(as Miss Adelaide), Russell (as Sarah Brown) and Douglas Hodge (as
Nathan Detroit). The show, which has been a big commercial hit, also
received a strong
critical reception. Directed by Grandage and choreographed by
Tony Award-winner Rob Ashford (who will reunite for the upcoming London Evita revival), the show is a somewhat grittier
interpretation of the classic musical, which is set in a New York world
of gamblers, gangsters, chorus girls and Sarah Brown, a Salvation Army girl who
wants to reform all of them. Of course, Sarah also
falls in love with gambler Sky Masterson.
The production currently features Sally Ann Triplett as Miss Adelaide, Adam Cooper as Sky Masterson, Kelly Price as Sarah Brown and Neil
Morrissey as Nathan Detroit. The musical is produced by the Donmar Warehouse, The Ambassador Theatre Group and Live
Nation in association with Arielle Tepper
and David Binder, Tulchin/Bartner Productions and IC
Productions. We Will Rock You reached its fourth West End anniversary on May 11th. The
show features a book by Ben Elton, direction by Christopher
Renshaw and choreography by Arlene Phillips. Set on
Planet Mall (formerly known as Earth) in a dark future that ordains
computer-produced cyber music in place of live performance, We Will Rock You's
heroes are a group of Bohemian rebels who must fight against the evil
Killer Queen in order to play their music. The show features 32 classic
Queen songs such as "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Crazy Little Thing Called
Love," "I Want It All," "Radio Gaga," "Under Pressure," and the title
song.
We Will Rock You stars Hannah Jane Fox as Scaramouche, Peter Johansson as Galileo, Jenna Lee-James as Meat, Mazz Murray as Killer Queen, Jeff Shankley as Pop, Alex Bourne as Khashoggi and Colin Charles as Britney. It is designed by Mark Fisher and Willie Williams.Visit www.guysanddollsthemusical.com or www.queenonline/wewillrockyou for more information.
