On Sunday, December 3rd, 2006, tickets for London's record-breaking musical Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre will go on sale for all performances until Saturday, June 30th, 2007.
Since its first public performance on September 7th, Wicked has already been seen by over 200,000 people. For the week 23 - 28 October 2006, Wicked grossed over three quarters of a million pounds (£761,125), setting a new West End theatre record.
Last week on Broadway, (November 21st-26th), Wicked broke its own box office record as the highest grossing show in Broadway history with a one-week gross of $1,715,155.
Based on the acclaimed novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked "tells the captivating story of an extraordinary friendship between two girls: the blond and popular Glinda and the misunderstood green girl, Elphaba, whose destiny is to become the Wicked Witch of the West," as press notes describe.
idina menzel will play her final performance as Elphaba on December 30th 2006. From Monday, January 1st, 2007, the role of will be played by Kerry Ellis.
The cast also includes: Helen Dallimore as Glinda, Adam Garcia as Fiyero, Miriam Margolyes as Madame Morrible, Nigel Planer as The Wizard, Martin Ball as Doctor Dillamond, James Gillan as Boq and Katie Rowley Jones as Nessarose.
Wicked, with a score by Stephen Schwartz, book by Winnie Holtzman, direction by Joe Mantello and choreography by Wayne Cilento, is presented in London by: Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone. Michael McCabe is exective producer.
