BroadwayWorld.com has learned that the Tony-winning (for Best Special Theatrical Event) "Liza's At the Palace" will be filmed this September at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas at the resort's Hollywood Theater. More details will be announced shortly and it's expected that the filming will contain all of the material she performed during her sold-out, Broadway run.
For the first time onstage, in addition to many of her greatest hits, Liza also paid an affectionate salute to her godmother, the late Kay Thompson who was a ground-breaking vocal arranger and musical director/vocal coach at MGM Studios.
Directed by Ron Lewis and supported by a quartet of dynamic singer/dancers, Liza performed musical numbers (with the original vocal arrangements) from Thompson's historic act with The Williams Brothers. Songs include "I Love a Violin," "Clap Yo' Hands," "Jubilee Time," and "Hello Hello."
She was joined by her Broadway co-stars Cortes Alexander, Jim Caruso, Johnny Rodgers and Tiger Martina. The legendary Billy Stritch led the evening on piano as musical director and for those who got to see it, it was certainly an experience that they'll never forget!
The original Broadway cast recording of her incomparable show was released on February 3rd, 2009.
