"A People's History of Oregon" is a new series of work that represents Chris Haberman's experience, research, oral history and tall tales about Oregon. Haberman attempts to bridge the gap between the facts and fables of Oregon's rich historical and cultural heritage by examining the authority of history with local folklore.

This exhibition portrays Haberman's perception of Oregon's cultural landscape from Paleolithic times and Native American heritage to pioneer development and modern Oregon. Reality and myth bleed into each other the same way the coast gives way to forest, then to city and desert. "A People's History of Oregon" represents a fun, illustrated look at our state, by blending myths, facts and oral tradition.

Chris Haberman, a graduate of Portland State University, is a working writer, painter, muralist, curator and musician, native to Portland, Oregon. Haberman's artwork is created using recycled objects and found material from the streets and alleyways of his hometown. A discarded cabinet door or tabletop quickly becomes the backdrop for an integrated puzzle-poem of figures and text, focusing on subjects like people, politics, the region, pop culture, mass media, music, film and literature.
