On behalf of PETA, Tony Award-winning composers Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison of The Drowsy Chaperone and Georgia Engel, who plays Mrs. Tottendale in the Broadway hit, have sent a singing telegram to Ken Livingstone, London's mayor.

Composed at the request of PETA Europe, it is an original children's song titled "A Breadcrumb Now and Then" appealing to the mayor to recognize the many wonderful attributes of the gentle rock dove hen (otherwise known as the pigeon) and her life mate, and to decide against imposing a ban on feeding pigeons in and around Trafalgar Square. A new byelaw has been applied for under which it would become illegal to feed the birds, not just in Trafalgar Square but in all the streets surrounding the Square.

Morrison recounts, "years ago I walked through Trafalgar Square and the pigeons were absolutely lovely." Lambert added that she has "a new-found affection for pigeons after researching and writing the song." Engel is a two-time Emmy-nominated actress that fans will remember from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "Everybody Loves Raymond."

The lyrics to "A Breadcrumb Now and Then" are as follows:

DID YA' KNOW - A PIGEON LIKES TO FLY FAST HE GOES FIFTY MILES PER DID YA' KNOW - A PIGEON SEES IN COLOR ULTRA-VIOLET HE'LL PREFER DID YA' KNOW A PIGEON BABY IS A "SQUEAKER"

DID YA' KNOW A PIGEON LADY IS A "HEN"

DID YA' KNOW A PIGEON'S THIRTY-SEVEN TASTE BUDS ENJOY A BREAD CRUMB NOW AND THEN

OH, PIGEONS! PRETTY PIGEONS!

ON THE GROUND AND IN THE TREES

WHEN THEY'RE CHASED AND YELLED AT

THEY GET SHAKY KNEES

DID YA' KNOW - A PIGEON DRINKS HER WATER THROUGH A BEAK THAT'S LIKE A STRAW YOU CAN SHOW A PIGEON SEVERAL HUNDRED PHOTOS AND SHE'LL REMEMBER WHAT SHE SAW DID YA' KNOW - A PIGEON'S NOT A "PIGEON"

DID YA' KNOW - A PIGEON IS A DOVE

AND NOTHING COMES BETWEEN TWO PIGEONS WHEN THEY FALL IN LOVE

Says PETA Europe's director, Poorva Joshipura, 'We are hoping that the mayor will be moved by this soft appeal for a gentle bird who thrills more people than are intolerant of her'.
