Lisa Kron's Well, which closed on Broadway last month, has been added to the Huntington Theatre's 2006-2007 season line-up, with the play to be presented at the Boston theatre company from March 9th through April 8th, 2007.
Well is currently up for two Tony Awards--for star Kron (as Best Actress in a Play) and for co-star Jayne Houdyshell (for Best Featured Actress in a Play). Directed by Leigh Silverman,
Well ran at the Longacre Theatre from March 10th through May 14th, with its opening night on March 30th.
Well "opens
with Lisa Kron's mother sitting on a La-Z-Boy recliner in the middle of
the stage. As the play goes on to deal with Kron's personal experiences
of healing, a comedic coup d'état breaks out. The actors critique the
script, her memories conflict with her flashbacks, her mother
interrupts with her own opinions, and Kron finds herself in danger of
losing control. The result is a hilarious and brazen piece that
questions our thoughts on the conventions of both theatre and
wellness," according to press notes for the show, which also featured Daniel Breaker, Saidah Arrika
Ekulona, John Hoffman, and Christina Kirk. The show transferred to Broadway after a successful run at the Public Theatre (also with Kron and Houdyshell).
The Huntington Theatre, in 2006-2007, will also present August Wilson's Radio Golf (September 8th-October 8th), Theresa Rebeck's
Mauritius (October 6th-November 12th),
David Lindsay-Abaire's
Rabbit Hole (November 3rd-December 3rd), Anton Chekhov's
The Cherry Orchard, starring
Kate Burton (January 5th-February 4th, 2007),
Noah Haidle's
Persephone (March 30th-May 6th) and
David Rabe's
Streamers (May 18th-June 17th).
