Linda Lavin to Play the Metropolitan Room, 5/6 & 7

On her nights off from THE LYONS on Broadway, Linda Lavin - the Tony-nominated star of Nicky Silver's comedy - will perform two concerts at the Metropolitan Room (34 W. 22 St.) in Manhattan on Sunday, May 6 and Monday, May 7, both at 9:30 p.m.

Ms. Lavin will perform selections from her CD, "Possibilities" with musical director Billy Stritch and her jazz combo featuring Mr. Stritch at the piano, Steve Doyle on bass and Steve Bakunas on drums. Songs include selections from "Possibilities," Ms Lavin's first-ever CD, such as "It Might as well be Spring," "There's a Small Hotel," ""Corcovado" and "You've Got Possibilities." "Possibilities" has been released by Sh-K-Boom Records.

On May 1, Ms. Lavin was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play in THE LYONS, now on Broadway at the Cort Theatre (138 W. 48 St.) As well, Ms. Lavin has been nominated for Best Actress by the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League for her incandescent portrayal of Rita Lyons in THE LYONS.

In THE LYONS Ms. Lavin portrays Rita Lyons, a woman at a major crossroads: her husband is dying, her son is in a dubious relationship, her daughter is struggling to stay sober, and on top of all that, Rita can't settle on a new design for the living room!

Written by Silver and directed by Mark Brokaw, the cast of THE LYONS stars Linda Lavin and Dick Latessa, along with Michael Esper, Kate Jennings Grant, Brenda Pressley and Gregory Wooddell. THE LYONS is produced on Broadway by Kathleen K. Johnson. Ms. Johnson presents the Vineyard Theatre production of THE LYONS.

Linda Lavin has received some of the best reviews of her career for THE LYONS. She previously appeared at the Kennedy Center in "Follies" and at Lincoln Center Theater in "Other Desert Cities" as well as "The Sisters Rosensweig" (Broadway) and "The New Century" (Drama Desk Award; Off-Broadway). Her numerous Broadway credits include "Collected Stories" (Tony nomination), "Hollywood Arms," "The Tale of the Allergist's Wife" (Tony nomination), "The Diary of Anne Frank" (Tony nomination, Drama Desk Award), "Gypsy," "Broadway Bound" (Tony Award, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle, Helen Hayes awards), "The Last of the Red Hot Lovers" (Tony nomination), "It's a Bird…It's a Plane…It's Superman," and "A Family Affair." Her off-Broadway credits include: "Cakewalk," "Death Defying Acts"; "The Mad Show," "Oh, Kay!" (Theatre World Award) and "Little Murders" (Outer Critics Circle Award). She has appeared in regional theatres in "Finishing the Picture," "Collected Stories," "Doubt," "Rabbit Hole" and "Driving Miss Daisy."? ?Her film credits include the recent "Wanderlust," "The Backup Plan," "The Muppets Take Manhattan," "See You in the Morning," "I Want to Go Home" and the soon-to-be-released "Wanderlust." Ms. Lavin's television credits include "Alice," "Barney Miller", "Room for Two" and "Conrad Bloom" along with the TV films “The $5.20 an Hour Dream”, “A Matter of Life and Death”, “A Place to Call Home”, “Lena: My 100 Children”, “Best Friends for Life”, “The Ring” and “Collected Stories”. Her cabaret performances include her own "Songs and Confessions of a One-time Waitress," and she has performed nationally at Birdland and The Metropolitan Room in New York as well as with the Wilmington Symphony.
