Lincoln Center Theater (under the direction of André Bishop, Artistic Director, and Bernard Gersten, Executive Producer) will open its 21st season with the world premiere of THIRD, a new play by Wendy Wasserstein, directed by Daniel Sullivan at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. Previews begin on Thursday, September 29 at 8PM. Opening night is Monday, October 24, at 6:45 PM.
Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Wendy Wasserstein's new play THIRD is a candid, uncompromising portrait of a woman at a crossroads in her life. In THIRD, college professor Laurie Jameson's seemingly ordered life as a wife, mother and daughter, as well as educator, is thrown into disarray after she accuses a student of plagiarism, the aftermath of which forces her to question the values and ideals she has clung to for so long.
Two-time Academy Award winning actress Dianne Wiest will be featured as Laurie Jameson. The cast will also feature Amy Aquino, Charles Durning, Gaby Hoffmann and Jason Ritter. THIRD will have sets by Thomas Lynch, costumes by Jennifer Von Mayrhauser, lighting by Pat Collins, original music by Robert Waldman and sound by Scott Stauffer.
Playwright Wendy Wasserstein and director Daniel Sullivan collaborated on the Lincoln Center Theater premieres of her plays The Sisters Rosensweig and An American Daughter and on Wasserstein's Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning play The Heidi Chronicles.
THIRD will be performed Tuesday through Saturday evenings at 8 PM, with matinees Wednesday and Saturday at 2 PM and Sundays at 3 PM. (There is no matinee on Saturday, October 1.) Tickets priced at $70 and $75 will be available beginning Monday, August 29, at the Lincoln Center Theater Box Office, by calling Tele-charge at (212) 239-6200 or by visiting www.lct.org.
