This Great Performers season kicks off with a two-week focus on Leonard Bernstein. From Wednesday, October 15 through Saturday, November 1, in the Walter Reade Theater, the legacy of the iconic conductor, composer, and music educator is celebrated in The Joy of Music: Leonard Bernstein on Film.
Bernstein's unique ability to communicate with artists and audiences is captured in this fascinating 11-part film series that includes historic concert footage and interviews, as well as excerpts from his beloved Young People's Concerts, which delivered New York Philharmonic performances, through television, to families around the world.

This Great Performers season also features the ever-popular Sunday Morning Coffee Concerts, the first of which, on Sunday, October 19, showcases Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto, whom The Guardian (London) says "may be the best thing to happen to classical music in years." See Kuusisto perform an hour-long recital that includes Bach's Partita No. 2 and improvisations, with electronics, on the composer's funeral chorales.
