The New York Times is reporting the Lincoln Center Festival's upcoming 12-hour production of Dostoevsky's novel, THE DEMONS, sold out all 700 tickets to its two performances in less than 12 hours. Tickets went on sale the morning of March 12th and were gone by 3:30pm that day.

The show will be presented on Governor's Island July 10th and 11th, which means audiences will have to take a ferry at 10:00am on the morning of the performance, followed by a 20 minute hike to the theatre, for an 11:00am start time.

THE DEMONS presents a number of daunting tasks for its audience. First and foremost, the 12-hour production may be tough for some audiences to handle. Not to mention the show will be presented completely in Italian, which means English-speaking audiences will read supertitles for the duration of the performance.

The production will be directed by famed German director Peter Stein for his work in both theatre and opera.

Step into 19th century Russia as Stein explores Dostoyevsky's prophetic vision in the tumultuous years leading up to the revolution. The sedate liberalism of the fathers is kindled into fire by the radically anarchist sons, while the demons of the title, in Stein's own words, "represent nothing but the diseases and madnesses of a young generation that had lost its faith in religion, and had become a victim of ideology."

Tickets for the event were priced at $175 and $225 and a limited number of tickets may become available at a later date if not spoken for by media and sponsors. The ticket includes both lunch and dinner.
