According to reports, singer and actress Lily Allen has become the composer for the upcoming musical BRIDET JONES' DIARY, which is set to hit the stage in 2011 in London's West End. The musical is based on the book by Helen Fielding and the following film which starred Renee Zellweger.

It's been reported that Allen has already completed one song, but has 11 more to go. One quoted source said, "It's a huge deal and a huge job. Lily's not on a roll yet as she's only finished one but she has a lot of ideas."

Author Helen Fielding has been working on a musical version of her original newspaper columns about a 32-year-old who keeps a diary detailing her hilarious attempts to take control of her life and find a man. The columns inspired Fielding to write two best-selling books - Bridget Jones's Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason - which were later turned into hit movies starring Renee Zellweger.

Bamigboye reports that the "project doesn't have a director yet, although a reading of the work Ms Fielding has done so far was performed for a small gathering in London recently and it was of some significance that Stephen Daldry and Peter Darling, the award-winning director and choreographer of the Billy Elliot musical (and film), were in The Audience."

Production Company Working Title, which was behind the Bridget Jones films, will produce the stage adaptation.

Last year, Allen claimed to be taking a break from both performing and recording in order to launch a designer clothing store as well as creating her own record company.
