Lighthouse Guild's Music School To Hold Annual PERFORM-A-THON  Image

Music and dance students of all ages from Lighthouse Guild's Filomen M. D'Agostino Greenberg Music School will perform in its annual perform-a-thon on Dec. 9 and 14th. The events will include dance and musical performances of a variety of styles. Funds raised will help keep tuition costs affordable for students who are visually impaired.

Who: Leap into Music: Children's Performances What: Children's dance ensembles, youth chorus and vocal ensemble, plus instrumental soloists When: Saturday, December 9th Time: 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm Where: National Dance Institute Center for Learning & the Arts 217 West 147 Street (between Frederick Douglass and Adam Clayton Powell Boulevards) in Manhattan Admission: FREE AND Who: Banquet of the Bands: Adult Performances What: Adult pop/rock band performances and vocal/instrumental solos When: Thursday, December 14th Time: 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Where: Lighthouse Guild, 250 West 64th Street (between West End Avenue and Amsterdam Avenue) in Manhattan Admission: FREE

Music School Programs
Children enrolled in the music school's Comprehensive Music Program for Young People (CMPYP) are provided with a curriculum that is a foundation for establishing essential music skills. Classes include Braille music, music theory, accessible music technology, music appreciation, dance, and individual instrumental lessons.

Adults enroll for individual lessons, with instruction available in voice, piano, guitar, recorder, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drums, vibraphone and percussion.

Performance Ensembles consist of up to 30 students who rehearse together weekly. Youth ensembles include chorus, and a small vocal ensemble. Adult ensembles include a 25-member Vocal Ensemble, two pop/rock ensembles and a young adult rock group.

All programs at at Lighthouse Guild's Filomen M. D'Agostino Greenberg Music School are made possible, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature; and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Councils. The Music School is a member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education.
