The producers of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, have announced that they will launch a national tour of the Broadway hit during the 2010-2011 Season.

The musical, recently nominated for eight Drama Desk Awards, four Outer Critics Circle Awards and three Drama League Awards, is currently playing to sold-out houses at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, and has twice broken the house record.

HAIR producers, including the Public Theater, Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel, made the announcement just days before the Tony Award nominations on Tuesday morning. The new Broadway production of HAIR, which opened March 31st to critical (and audience) acclaim, continues to set new box office records at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street).

Oskar Eustis, artistic director of The Public Theater remarked in his announcement that, "The Audience response to Hair in New York has been tremendous; we've been thrilled with how the show reaches across barriers and speaks to all audiences. In the great tradition of the Public Theater, we're taking it On The Road and bringing Hair to the people."After a smash-hit run at Central Park‘s Delacorte Theater last summer, HAIR returns to Broadway for the first time in over 30 years.

The story of a group of young Americans searching for love and peace during the Vietnam era, HAIR is a timeless portrait of a movement that changed the world. Its groundbreaking rock score paved the way for some of the greatest musicals of our time. Now, the "Age of Aquarius" dawns again in this jubilant new production directed by Diane Paulus, with choreography by Karole Armitage. HAIR features a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, and music by Galt MacDermot.
