Starting Monday, actor Liev Schreiber will spar on stage with Scarlett Johansson in Arthur Miller's emotionally-charged play, 'A View from the Bridge'. Schreiber plays Eddie Carbone, a Brooklyn man who falls into a dangerous obsession with his 17-year-old niece, played by Broadway newcomer Johansson.
Schreiber is a veteran film and stage actor; 'Bridge' marks his fifth time on the Broadway stage. In 2005, he earned a Tony Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Ricky Roma in a revival of David Mamet's 'Glengarry GLen Ross' and he has received wide critical acclaim for other roles.
Despite years of experience, he admits to his uncontrollable nerves before stepping onto the stage. It is Johansson - who will make her Broadway debut in 'Bridge'- who helps Shreiber maintain his composure, he says in an interview with the New York Post, "These plays make me crazy. The anxiety really makes me nuts. But she has tremendous composure and focus, which is very surprising for someone who's never done it. She's been through a lot at a very young age, so she has an emotional maturity that someone who hasn't been through that wouldn't have."Recently seen in Tony Kushner's 'The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures', Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning playwright Michael Cristofer will play the role of ‘Alfieri.' Recently seen in Neil Simon's 'Brighton Beach Memoirs', Santino Fontana and Jessica Hecht will play the roles of ‘Rodolfo' and ‘Beatrice,' respectively. Drama Desk nominee Corey Stoll (Intimate Apparel) will play the role of ‘Marco.' The production is directed by Gregory Mosher.
The creative team for A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE will include John Lee Beatty (Scenic Design), Jane Greenwood (Costume Design), Peter Kaczorowski (Lighting Design), and Scott Lehrer (Sound Design).
A View From The Bridge is produced by Stuart Thompson and The Araca Group. Additional producers include Jeffrey Finn, Sonia Friedman, The Weinstein Company and Olympus Theatricals.
Performances begin Monday, December 28, 2009 at the Court Theatre, with an official opening on Sunday, January 24, 2010. The limited engagement will run for 14 weeks only.
