Liev Schreiber No Longer Voice of HBO Sports, Moves on to Showtime Network

As first reported on Deadline.com, stage and screen actor Liev Schreiber is set to star in a pilot for the Showtime network entitlEd Ray DONOVAN.  However, Deadline also reports that HBO has not renewed Schreiber's long time contract to continue as the voice of the sports division of the HBO network.  For the past 16 years, the actor has lent his voice to the narration of the majority of HBO sports documenteries as well as the '24/7' reality series and the NFL series, 'Hard Knocks'.   Schreiber's most recent project with HBO is the upcoming '24/7 Flyer/Rangers: Road to the NHL Winter Classic'. 

An HBO source has revealed that the network has no future plans to sign a deal with another actor, opting instead to use a variety of stars to voice their upcoming documentaries and series. The decision coincides with the recent appointment of Ken Hershman as the new HBO Sports president. Hershman will begin his duties in January.  

Schreiber had just started his work with Showtime at the time of the HBO announcement.  It is speculated that HBO's decision may be related to Schreiber's decision to take on the starring role with its rival network, Showtime.  HBO denies that the two events are related.

He has won equally high praise as well as Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his work in film and television. His most recent film credits include Salt opposite Angelina Jolie; Every Day co-starring with Helen Hunt; Repo Man with Jude Law and Forest Whitaker; and Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock. Among his many other feature film credits are: X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Painted Veil; The Sum of All Fears and Kate & Leopold. In 2005, Schreiber made his feature film directorial debut with Everything is Illuminated, which he adapted from Jonathan Safran's best-selling novel of the same name.
