After an extended sold-out West Coast run, Louie Liberti's show
Almost Made will move back east to be closer to its roots. It will begin its East Coast premiere on Saturday, October 14, opening Sunday, October 22 at 3PM through November 26 at Urban Stages (259 West 30th Street). The show will be produced by Theatre Planners' Racquel Lehrman.
"Hard work only gets you so far … that was life's reality in the Italian section of Queens, NY in the 1970's," according to notes on the show. "Arriving home to eulogize his hero,
Almost Made is a tribute to Liberti's father. The play follows Liberti as a teen working with his father in the 'family'-owned club through his tragic downward spiral into drugs and depression. Devastated by the fall of his idol, Louie escapes to the other side of the country, only to begin making the same mistakes as his father...
Almost Made is a touching story of admiration and disappointment seen through the eyes of a young boy wanting to make his father proud."
Liberti is a working stage and TV actor (4 years on "ER"), as well as teacher and director. Director DW Brown is a theatre and TV veteran who has been involved in over seventy theatrical presentations, and has written and produced several feature films. He is also the co-owner of the Los Angeles based acting school The Joanne Baron/DW Brown Studios, with his wife Joanne Baron.
Developed by Mark Travis,
Almost Made was first seen at LA's Coast Playhouse (performed opposite
Jewtopia). It then moved to the Tamarind Theatre in Hollywood, CA.
The show will run: Thursday – Saturday at 8PM; Sunday at 3PM. Tickets are $35. There will be a special Gala Performance on Saturday, October 14; tickets are $50 for that performance.
