The Williamstown Theatre Festival production of Double Double will begin performances Wednesday, August 16.

Double Double will star Matt Letscher (The Rivals, Proposals) and Jennifer Van Dyck (Hedda Gabler, Dancing at Lughnasa, Two Shakespearean Actors).  Carrie Preston/>, previously announced for the production, withdrew for a television opportunity.

The play was written by Roger Rees/> and Rick Elice/> (Jersey Boys) and is directed by Rees, who is the Williamstown Theatre Festival's artistic director, and who won Tony and Olivier Awards for his performance in The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby.  Other New York credits include A Man of No Importance, The Misanthrope, Uncle Vanya and Indiscretions, for which he received a Tony nomination.  He is also a noted director.

Double Double premiered at the Fortune Theatre, in the West End, London in 1986 starring Rees and Jane Lapotaire.  The play has been translated into 16 languages and is performed the world over.  This is the play's New England premiere.

The show "is a glossy romantic thriller about a widow, Phillipa James, who picks up a bum from London's Embankment and takes him home to her late husband's luxury flat.  A purely business arrangement, as she explains to the down-and-out Duncan McFee, who happens to bear an uncanny resemblance to her dearly departed mate.  In exchange for just a tad of impersonation, and the signing of some legal papers, Phillipa offers Duncan money, food and shelter. That's the deal.  But it's far from the whole truth," state press notes.

Set design is by Neil Patel/>, with costume design by Jennifer Caprio, lighting design is by Charles Foster, and sound design is by David Thomas.

Tickets are available at www.wtfestival.org, 413.597.3400, and the Festival Box Office.  The production runs August 16-27.  Performances are Tuesdays – Fridays at 8:00, Saturdays at 8:30, with matinees Thursdays at 3:00, Saturdays at 4:00 and Sundays at 2:00 .

Williamstown Theatre Festival performances are held at The '62 Center for Theatre and Dance of Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
