Leslie Odom Jr. is set to star in The Many Saints Of Newark, the prequel film to the hit HBO series The Sopranos, according to Deadline.
Odom Jr. joins a cast that includes Alessandro Nivola, Vera Farmiga, Ray Liotta, Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, John Magaro and Michael Gandolfini.
There has been no announcement as to what role Odom Jr. will play. The film is set in the era of the Newark riots in the 60s, when the African-Americans and the Italians of Newark were at each other's throats. Among the gangsters of each group, that clash became especially lethal.
The film's script was written by Chase with Lawrence Konner with Alan Taylor directing. Taylor directed many episodes of Sopranos and won a 2007 Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for the episode Kennedy and Heidi.
Chase is producing the film with Konner. Nicole Lambert is executive producing for Chase Films with Marcus Viscidi and The Disco Factory's Michael Disco.
Odom Jr. is a Tony award winner for his breakout role as Aaron Burr in Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway hit "Hamilton." Since he completed his run in the musical, he has appeared in films like Kenneth Branagh's "Murder on the Orient Express" and recently completed production on two other features: "Only" starring opposite Freida Pinto from writer-director Takashi Dosche rand the untitled feature film directorial debut from recording artist Sia. He is also set to star in "Needle in a Timestack" written and directed by John Ridley.
