The show, which features music and lyrics by Alan and a book by Smith, will boast musical direction will be by Barbara Anslemi with arrangements by Jim Abbott.

Piece has had several New York readings and, most recently, participated in the New Works Theatre Festival at Theatreworks in Palo Alto, California. "Upon returning to her childhood home following the passing of her mother, Katherine Mathews finds herself clinging to the memories of her past; watching conversations she's had with her mother at the ages of 17, 26 and 35. In a soaring musical full of unexpected recollections, Katherine pieces together the patterns of a life filled with promise and compromise, third strikes and second chances, and always, a mother's unconditional love," according to production notes. Piece is produced by Playing Pretend Productions with general management by The Charlotte Wilcox Company.

Alan's first musical Listen and Dream premiered at the Fireplace Theatre in Boston in 1999. A one-time band vocalist, he has also written the musical Detour. He is also the producer of the Duplex' popular Monday Nights, New Voices series, which puts lesser-known Broadway talents in the spotlight.
