A prime Sondheim interpreter shows off his skills!
Original FOLLIES star Kurt Peterson returned to the hallowed world of Stephen Sondheim as part of a 54 Below celebration titled SONDHEIMAS this weekend and a video of his spectacular performance is now available to view.
In the clip, Peterson performs an inventive medley of "So Many People" from SATURDAY NIGHT and "Being Alive" from COMPANY while also making a memorable tribute to recently deceased friend and fellow Sondheim star Victoria Mallory, who passed away last year after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Of note, SONDHEIMAS occurred on March 21 at 54 Below.
The official description of SONDHEIMAS is as follows: "SONDHEIMAS is the annual quasi-religious celebration of the birth of the savior of musical theater, Stephen Sondheim. The team that brought you last year's sold-out show at 54 Below is back with another raucous celebration of the man, the music, and the mythos. Expect songs familiar and obscure, irreverent schtick, and a warm holiday feeling that can only come from a gathering of the faithful celebrating together. Featuring Kurt Peterson (Follies Original Cast), Liz Larsen (Beautiful), Ariana DeBose (Hamilton), Molly Pope (Found), Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown), Sal Viviano (Closer Than Ever), George Abud (Allegro), puppeteer Scottie Rowell, Larry Owens (Fat Camp), and Playbill's Robbie Rozelle. Produced by David Levy and Maggie Larkin. Musical Direction by Andrei Strizek."
Technical information for the video is as follows: "The Sondheimas Festival Orchestra: Andrei Strizek (musical director, piano), Steven Cuevas (strings) and Curt Garey (drums). Produced by Maggie Larkin & David Levy. Filmed by Shoshana Feinstein."
More information on SONDHEIMAS is available at the official site here.
