On Saturday, June 19 at 1 p.m., Tony DiBartolo, Vice President for Public Relations of the Italian Genealogical Group, will present "Mezzo Siciliano, Mezzo Napolitano," at the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum.
While trying to obtain the documents necessary for dual citizenship, DiBartolo spent two months in Italy locating relatives and researching his ancestors. To facilitate his quest, he did a great deal of research in advance and created charts with information he'd uncovered about his family's past. In his presentation on June 19, DiBartolo will share the joys and the pitfalls of his experiences, and describe how you can uncover your own family history. He will show how to start a family tree and explain a variety ways you can obtain details about your ancestors. He will also introduce the tremendous database of resources available through the Italian Genealogical Group, as well as other local sources.
The Italian Genealogical Group was founded in 1993 when a small group of people in the New York area who were researching their Italian roots combined their knowledge. The group soon grew into a nationwide organization that helps people of Italian descent find their relatives-present and past-in Italy and the United States. Working together as part of a worldwide Italian "family," they help individuals discover and preserve the legacy of the stories, facts and incidents that are an integral part of each unique family history. They also share information about the many diverse ways to find information about your family and its past, both in the United States and Italy. Their goal is to develop-and spread the news about-the myriad resources that are available to aid those doing genealogical research, and to provide the tools to help individuals develop the stories of their own families.
The Italian Genealogical Group is a non-profit organization incorporated under the laws of the State of New York, and is a member of the Federation of Genealogical Societies.
Admission of $10 for non-members and $5 for members includes a light reception. This Terza Domenica Heritage Event is taking place on Saturday this month to avoid conflict with Father's Day. There will be no Terza Domenica event in July.
