Learn the ANATOMY OF A MUSICAL with EAG Industry Panel

Tony Award-winning producer Margot Astrachan (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder) is joined by a panel of musical theatre industry veterans on Wednesday, April 19 at 7pm for an insightful discussion about how musicals come together.

Topics will include moving a work from concept to full production, and how musicals are selected for prestigious showcases like the New York Musical Festival.

As a special treat, composer Michael Roberts will perform several songs from his hit musicals!

If you have a musical or play, or have thought about writing one, this is the event for you.

Anatomy of a Musical will be followed by a reception. All proceeds from the evening's performance will go to support EAG's charitable work.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Dan Markley has been a theater producer, manager, owner, and investor for over 25 years in New York City. He is currently Executive Director & Producer of the New York Musical Festival. Among his varied consulting activities, he has recently provided services in the areas of theater design, management, and programming for both the Dreamland Film and Performing Arts Center and the White Heron Theatre on Nantucket. For the past several years he has also worked with Peter Buffett on Mr. Buffett's one-man show, Life Is What You Make It, and his Native American dance theater show, Spirit The Seventh Fire. On and Off Broadway Mr. Markley co-produced Oleanna (original), STOMP (Obie & Drama Desk Awards), Damn Yankees (Tony nomination), On The Waterfront, The Vagina Monologues, Lifegame, Shockheaded Peter, Irving Berlin's White Christmas, High Fidelity, Family Secrets (revival), and Something Roten! (Tony and Drama Desk nominations). He also co-produced the feature film Jeffrey and a feature length documentary about D-Day entitled Bedford: The Town They Left Behind. As an investor and investment manager, he has participated in over forty commercial productions.

James Vagias is one of the three co-founders of The American Theater Group, a professional regional theater originally performing out of the Hamilton Stage Theater in Rahway, NJ and now located at the South Orange Performing Arts Center. As ATG's Producing Artistic Director, he has produced over one dozen professional productions during the company's first four seasons, and has instituted a highly successful educational outreach program with Rahway High School, as well as a state-wide DramaFest. Vagias' other regional theater experiences included serving as Managing Director of the South Jersey Regional Theater; Treasurer of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance; and a nine year tenure as Executive Producer of the American Stage Company, during which he produced over 40 new and classic plays and musicals, including 14 world premieres, 6 of which successfully transferred to Off-Broadway (such as I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change and Swingtime Canteen).
