BroadwayWorld has confirmed that Allegiance - A New American Musical that premiered at San Diego's Old Globe last fall, held a pre-Broadway, New York City reading yesterday, May 20. The event was led by Lea Salonga, George Takei and Telly Leung, all of whom starred in the San Diego production.

Also included in the cast were Marc De La Cruz, Gaelen Gilliland, Allie Trimm, Kay Trinidad, Diane Phelan, Paul Nakauchi,Katie Boren, MaryAnn Hu, Scott Watanabe, Aaron Albano, Ann Sanders, Aaron Finley, Will Ray, Jon Jon Briones, Marcus Choi and Kenneth Lee.

Allegiance features music and lyrics by Jay Kuo, book by Marc Acito, Kuo and Lorenzo Thione, direction by Stafford Arima, choreography by Andrew Palermo and music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations by Lynne Shankel.

A production source tells BroadwayWorld.com that ALLEGIANCE is aiming for Broadway, possibly in the spring of 2014. The source cautions that there are numerous variables including star schedules and theatre availability that need to line up, so there is yet no official plan.

Sixty years after the attack on Pearl Harbor, a chance meeting forces WWII veteran Sam Kimura to remember his family's relocation from their California farm to the Heart Mountain internment camp. As they struggle to adjust to their new home, Young Sam and his sister Kei find themselves torn between loyalty to their family and Allegiance to their country. With its moving score, Allegiance - A New American Musical takes audiences on a journey into our nation's history through the eyes of one American family.
