Lauren Glassberg, a features reporter and substitute co-anchor for WABC-TV's Eyewitness News - will read Patricia Polacco's book The Butterfly on Thursday, February 7th at 4:00pm at the Upper West Side Barnes & Noble (2289 Broadway at 82nd Street). This reading will give parents and children the opportunity to hear the work that has inspired the new family musical The Butterfly - adapted from Polacco's children's book, with Music by Charles Greenberg, Book & Lyrics by Barbara Zinn Krieger and Directed by David Schechter - before seeing it at Symphony Space (2537 Broadway at 95th Street) from February 9th through February 12th.

The Butterfly - drawn from Patricia Polacco's own family history - is a story of acceptance, courage and conviction set against the backdrop of Nazi-occupied 1942 France. Monique is forever changed when she encounters Sevrine, a Jewish girl her age, hiding in her attic.  Monique discovers that her mother and the family priest, members of the French Resistance, are giving refuge to Sevrine's family. When their secret is discovered, Monique rallies her courage to help lead her new found friend to safety.

The Butterfly
features a cast which includes - Alyssa May Gold; Emily Harvey; Alexa Holzberger; Al Pagano; Ted Bouton; and Joe Grandy. Design team for The Butterfly is: Jack Mehler (Set Designer); Douglas Cox (Lighting Designer); Jenna Rossi-Camus (Costume Designer); and Bill Grady (Sound Designer). Boosey and Hawkes, the world-renowned music publisher, will continue their partnership with Making Books Sing and publish The Butterfly, as they have with other Making Books Sing productions in years past.

Making Books Sing began in 1996 by Barbara Zinn Krieger (Artistic Director) and Debra Sue Lorenzen, (Executive Director), as a program of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Vineyard Theatre. There it enjoyed phenomenal success as an entertainment program for family audiences, and even greater success in New York City schools, where Making Books Sing sends professional theatre artists each year to teach students and their teachers how to create their own plays and musicals based on books.
