Lane and Wopat to Star in Catch Me If You Can?

Canada.com reports that Tony Award-winner Nathan Lane (Butley, The Producers) and Tom Wopat (Chicago, Annie Get Your Gun), who starred in earlier workshops of Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman's Broadway-bound musical Catch Me If You Can, may reprise their roles for Broadway.  Lane would Hanratty (portrayed by Tom Hanks in the film) and Wopat would take on the role of Frank Abignale, Sr. (played by Christopher Walken in the film).  No official casting has been announced.

Auditions for a July workshop are currently underway.  The show will open on Broadway in 2008.

Catch Me If You Can, with music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman and a book by Terrence McNally, will be directed by Jack O'Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.   The 2002 film, about a young con artist's pursuit by an FBI agent,  featured a screenplay by Jeff Nathanson, based on the book by Frank Abagnale Jr., and was directed by Steven Speilberg.  Leonardo DiCaprio co-starred with Hanks and Walken.

Shaiman and Wittman previously collaborated on the Broadway smash Hairspray, also directed by O'Brien and choreographed by Mitchell.
