Last night in New York, Lambda Legal, the nation's oldest and largest LGBT legal organization, hosted the 2018 National Liberty Awards, honoring former Lambda Legal attorney and founder of Freedom to Marry, EVan Wolfson. The Liberty Awards National Dinner honors advocates, activists and allies in the fight for LGBT equality.
The event held at Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers was hosted by Orange is the New Black actress, Lea DeLaria and featured presenter and fellow Orange cast mate, Selenis Leyva who spoke of the advancements of LGBT equality and the personal significance it has had on her and her sister, Marizol, a transgender Latina model, cook and activist. Guests were treated to a special live performance by Nathan Lee Graham, as well as Kim Petras who kicked off the after-party and had guests on their feet.
Other notable guests in attendances included, John Cameron Mitchell, Abigail Savage, Justin Mikita, NYC Council Speaker Corey Johnson, Ryan Tarpley, Jeffrey Marsh, Lambda Legal CEO Rachel B. Tiven and more.
Founded in 1973, Lambda Legal is the oldest and largest national legal organization whose mission is to achieve full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and everyone living with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.
