Lakewood Theatre Company will be having open auditions on SATURDAY, FEB. 26 and SUNDAY, FEB. 27, 2011 for the musical, The Secret Garden. The production is directed by Kirk Mouser and the music director is Alan D. Lytle. Call 503-635-3901 beginning Feb. 8, 2011 to reserve an audition slot.
The director is seeking: 9 men, ages 20-60s and 10 women, ages 20-50s for the cast. All performers receive remuneration.
Audition Location: Lakewood Theatre Company at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego.
Materials Needed: Please bring a resume, a current 8X10 glossy photo, and prepare a Broadway standard song in the correct key for your voice. Only 32 bars of music will be needed. An accompanist will be provided. Please, no recorded music or acappella singing.
Performance Schedule: May 6 through June 12, 2011. Performances are Thurs-Sat at 7:30 PM, Sundays at 7:00 PM (May 8, 15 & 22) and Sunday matinees (May 15, 22, 29 & June 5, 12). Lakewood Theatre Company features an intimate 220-seat theatre located at Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S. State Street in Lake Oswego.
About the Play: The Secret Garden features music and lyrics by Lucy Simon and book by Marsha Norman. The musical is based on the book The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The production is directed by Kirk Mouser.
The Story: Living in a lonely manor house in 1906 England, Archibald Craven yearns for his beautiful, late wife. He blames his crippled son, Colin, for his wife's death and has left him neglected and isolated. Their quiet routine is turned upside down when young Mary Lennox, a rich, spoiled child, is sent to live with them following the death of her parents by cholera in India. While living at the manor house, Mary discovers a secret walled garden hidden in the grounds and releases the magic and adventures locked inside, changing their lives forever.

... Colin Craven (age 10-12) boy soprano. The invalid son of Archibald. Colin has been sickly since his mother died giving birth to him. He tells Mary when they meet, "I see no one and no one sees me."
... Lily Craven (age 26-37) soprano. The spirit of Archibald's wife (and Colin's mother). Mary asks Archibald, "Does eveyone who dies become a ghost?" He answers. "They're only a ghost if someone alive is still holding on to them."
... Dr. Neville Craven (age 25-40) baritone. The younger brother of Archie, Neville is Colin's physician. Also in love with Lily and very jealous that his "crippled" brother won her love. PRE-CAST
... Martha (age 18-30) mezzo-soprano/alto. Mary's chambermaid. Spunky, high spirited, overwhelmingly optimistic servant. Martha becomes Mary's first friend providing her with information and advice. Martha must be a very strong singer - she sings "A Fine White Horse" and "Hold On."
... Dickon (age 16-28) tenor. Martha's younger brother who introduces Mary to the gardens and the wild things of the Cornish Moor. He has a magical understanding of growing things.
... Ben Weatherstaff (age 40 and over) tenor. Ben is the head gardener. He tended Miss Lily's garden until his back prevented him from doing so.
... Mrs. Medlock (age 30 and over) speaking part only. No singing required. The no-nonsense Housekeeper at the Craven residence. Mean. Sharp. Pinch lipped.
